"Friendships and Memories That Will Last A Lifetime"
Do you love baseball? Over the 14 year history of WhiteWings' Baseball, the Host Family program has been a vital part of the team's success both on and off the field. Having players become a part of a local family helps these young men have a sense of normalcy and family atmosphere, in a new city.
Many of the players become more than a guest; they actually become part of the family. Every year approximately 22 young men move to Harlingen for the summer to play for your Harlingen warmth you receive from a Host Family is priceless to baseball players trying to advance their careers.”
Being a host family presents a unique opportunity to be part of the baseball season unlike any other, by providing a summer home for a WhiteWings player. Host Family’s are required to provide a room WhiteWings. From May 1, 2008 through August 31, 2008 these professional baseball players continue their careers playing 90 regular season games, with 45 home games. WhiteWings’ players come from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Mexico to represent the City of Harlingen.
“Having played in the minor leagues myself, I can fully appreciate the willingness of people to open their homes to our players,” said WhiteWings' Field Manager Al Gallagher. “Being miles away from home there is nothing better than feeling like you’re at home,” added Gallagher. “The love, smiles, and and bed for player during the baseball season, as well as good ole' fashion home cooked meals.
